Supervisor, Clinical Practice Specialist
The Supervisor, Clinical Practice Specialists will be responsible for the day-to-day activities related to the operation of the STA legacy center and recovering organs for transplant, including but not limited to donor referrals, donor evaluation, authorization process, and comprehensive donor management. Activities include being knowledgeable of individual hospital policies related to the donation of all anatomical gifts; identifying key personnel who can improve and maintain a hospital's level of participation in facilitating potential organ and tissue donors; and performing activities related to the initial and surgical recovery elements of the donation process. Advancing level responsibilities include facilitating donor management strategies on behalf of Southwest Transplant Alliance, advanced donor management strategies, and invasive procedures. The position will also facilitate the general activities required throughout the donor recovery period under the direction of the medical director, clinical management team, and the lead recovery surgeon present in the operating room.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Supervises assigned team members, including conducting employee appraisals, performance improvement plans, and corrective action plans under the direction of the Director of Surgical and Perfusion Services.
- Approve employee expense reports, off call pay, and PTO requests in accordance with STA guidelines and policy.
- Rotate Case Specialist duties with the Clinical Practice Specialists and clinical leadership.
- Maintain skills at all levels of ORC by performing onsite donor management as directed, according to donor activity and performing procedures (line placement, liver biopsy, bronchoscopy, etc.) on donors as needed.
- Maintain regular office hours in addition to call responsibilities.
- Actively manage Legacy Center workflow and case activity, providing input for optimal strategies.
- Regularly perform walkthrough inspections of the Donor Care Unit, ensuring compliance with protocols and adequate supplies to meet current case demand.
- Partner with the Materials Management Team to ensure adequate supplies are present to meet donor volume requirements.
- Participate in team huddles.
- Responsible for critical communications related to donor activity and Legacy Center processes as needed.
- Review information documented in case charts to verify accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation of training.
- Ensure adequate staffing.
- Assist HR and Education Departments in recruiting, interviewing, and training clinical staff.
- Assist in the development of continuing education and training materials, programs, and curriculum related to clinical functions.
- Oversee coordination and execution of research initiatives and Quality Improvement initiatives (PDSA) approved by STA leadership under the direction of the Director of Surgical and Perfusion Services.
- Complete STA Leadership Development Training.
- Work with AOC, COO, and CEO for complex issues, especially those with potential for significant financial, regulatory, or legal impact to the organization.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Associate degree in nursing or biological science or related experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, or applicable experience and related training preferred.
- Minimum three years as an Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC) II or higher, or equivalent experience.
- Certification as a Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator through the American Board for Transplant Certification preferred.
- Prior experience as a preceptor in a clinical setting.
- Prior leadership experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Expert knowledge of OPO standards & OPTN policy related to OPO responsibilities and organ allocation.
- Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to cope with high levels of stress and handle a heavy workload.
- Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive personal auto to meet all job duties and responsibilities. Current Driver’s license required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to develop proficiency in industry-specific software programs.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Kronos preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills are essential.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills required to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
- Must be reliable in meeting departmental expectations.
