Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing moderate and high complexity testing. You will analyze, review, and report test results and quality control results, and ensure specimen integrity by adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
- Complete moderate and high complexity testing and follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient result records.
- Correctly receive specimens, print labels, and enter and verify patient data without errors.
- Operate and troubleshoot test systems.
- Identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
- Ensure that test selection and reference ranges are age-appropriate.
- Ensure timely availability of laboratory results.
- Perform quality control activities appropriate to each assay performed and respond appropriately to outlier results.
- Participate in proficiency testing activities in each applicable technical area.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
Experience
- 2 years of generalist and blood bank experience in an acute care setting – preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
- Graduation from a clinical rotation or internship from an accredited medical technology program OR, 50-week military training course or acceptable equivalent which results in eligibility to take the registry exam in medical technology (Clinical Laboratory Science).
Licenses and Certifications
- Registration as a Medical Technologist (MT) by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR, evidence of a passing registry exam score within 1 year of hire.
This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
St. Davids Medical Center is a full-service hospital located in central Austin, Texas. This 300+ bed facility features a 24-hour emergency department, the region's largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the internationally-renowned Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute and St. Davids Neuroscience & Spine Institute. The full scope of services provided at St. Davids Medical Center includes cancer care, heart and vascular care, imaging services, joint replacement and orthopedics, women's services, complex surgical services, and a Bariatric Surgery Center. The facility is home to a 60+ bed rehabilitation hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient comprehensive care.
