What you'll doThe primary function of the Nurse Educator is to provide effective educational programming to meet the dynamic needs of Bassett’s nursing staff. The Nurse Educator supports optimal, evidence-based nursing practice by employing educational strategies to promote positive learning and clinical competency in the practice environment. This is accomplished by assessment of learning needs, identification of issues and trends, identification of desired outcomes, planning, implementation, coordination, consultation and evaluation. The Nurse Educator is responsible for developing and implementing educational plans to meet the identified learning needs of the nursing staff and for promoting high quality clinical performance to enhance patient outcomes.
- Utilizes creative and innovative strategies to address educational needs of nursing staff.
- Performs learning needs assessments for both individuals and groups. Uses data and tools to identify issues and trends that indicate staff learning needs.
- Develops, revises and implements orientation programs for new staff to meet identified needs.
- Collaborates with unit clinical leaders and managers to monitor progress of newly hired nursing staff during the orientation period.
- Develops clinical unit-based educational plans to meet desired outcomes, in consultation with nursing leaders and unit-based educators.
- Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development including identifying program outcomes, competency statements, learning objectives, selection of appropriate learning activities and evaluation strategies.
- Designs, implements and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff to assure initial and on-going clinical competency.
- Utilizes creative strategies to address educational needs that are consistent with the principles of adult education and learning theories and facilitate achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes and promote critical thinking by staff nurses.
- Demonstrates use of multiple effective teaching-learning methods, such as: lecture, case-study presentations, group learning activities, role-play, high-fidelity simulation scenarios, return-demonstration skills labs, written or on-line learning modules.
- Develops, coordinates and implements educational programs to meet the needs identified by changes in practice, systems, workflows or equipment. Collaborates with clinical leaders to coordinate train-the-trainer or super-user programs.
- Plans and coordinates Continuing Education programs to meet the on-going needs of nurses at all stages of their career development. Serves as a Nurse Planner for the Provider Unit for Continuing Education and assures Continuing Education (CE contact hour) programs meet all requirements of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding nursing staff education and competency assessment and coordinates programs to meet these requirements.
- Develops and implements nursing staff development initiatives, including preceptor development, specialty certification, credentialing and career development.
- Plans and implements an effective clinical preceptor program that includes preceptor education and support activities, utilizing evidence-based curriculum. Evaluates and modifies aspects of the preceptor program based on outcome data.
- Coordinates on-going competency assessment and validation processes and establishes methods for measuring on-going clinical competence and record keeping.
- Assists individuals and groups of staff with educational resources to prepare for specialty practice certification or promotion along the professional pathway or other career development activities.
- Effectively coaches nursing staff to assist with improvement of practice (remediation), career development, or clinical advancement.
- Collaborates with faculty from affiliated nursing schools and unit managers and clinical leaders to coordinate student clinical placements.
- Promotes patient-centered and evidence-based care.
- Maintains and improves clinical skills and proficiency in practice and role models evidence-based practice.
- Promotes evidence-based nursing practice through incorporation of research findings in all educational programs and coaching nursing staff to explore and implement identified best practices.
- Offers timely consultation to nursing staff relative to patient care issues.
- Role models, promotes and teaches service-oriented behaviors and communication to achieve the highest patient satisfaction levels.
- Develops and implements educational programs to improve patient outcomes, based on Performance Improvement and other data.
- Identifies issues requiring nursing or interdisciplinary research and promotes or participates in these research activities.
- Functions as a change agent and organizational clinical leader.
- Responds to organizational strategic plans or changes in nursing practice to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs to support these changes and desired outcomes.
- Contributes to the development of standards of nursing practices.
- Participates in professional practice activities and multidisciplinary institutional committees and work groups to plan and implement operational and practice changes to improve patient outcomes.
- Leads committees, work groups or teams in project management: planning, organizing and managing resources to bring about successful completion of project goals and objectives.
- Promotes a safe and healthy work environment, serving as an advocate and positive champion for patient safety and effective collaboration and teamwork.
- Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.
What we need from youEducation:
- Bachelor's Degree required, with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- Masters in Nursing (Nursing Education or related specialty), preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience is required with increasing staff development or leadership responsibility, preferred.
License/certifications:
- Current NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, required.
- National certification in Nursing Professional Development or other clinical specialty, preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Pay Range
Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.
Pay Range Minimum: USD $86,097.70/Yr.
Pay Range Maximum: USD $129,146.55/Yr.
