Professional and supervisory work in the coordinating of a unit providing entomological services, including directing research on mosquitoes, termites, and other health-related arthropods, and utilizing up-to-date mosquito and vector-borne disease ecology practices, including techniques for disease surveillance and control strategies. A person in this class works collaboratively with outside federal, state, and local governments as well as the public and must provide guidance and technical assistance concerning issues on mosquito production and control; and related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- One (1) year of experience with the City of New Orleans in Entomological services work at a pay grade equal to or higher than Entomologist II (pay grade 85), OR five (5) years of professional experience in the field of entomology. At least two years of this experience must have been supervisory experience which included coordinating a unit or bureau providing entomological services and directing research.

Domicile Requirements: Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013, must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire.
Background Check: The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified individuals prior to requesting a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history.
Substance Abuse Testing: The City of New Orleans has a comprehensive program of substance abuse testing. Working Test Period: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year.
