Qualifications:
- This role will require reaching, crouching, lifting boards above shoulder height, and lifting objects up to 50lbs.
- This role requires the ability to perform routine tasks independently from a schedule of activities.
- Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable with email, MS Word and MS Excel.
- Must have the highest standards of integrity, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proactive in task management and ability to address/take care of basic laboratory facilitation.
Responsibilities:
- This position has the primary responsibility of supporting the development of solutions for the Coatings Industry by evaluating and analyzing film performance and failure after exterior exposure.
- This position is working in the Architectural Coatings Weathering lab.
- This position will be responsible for maintaining the exposure test fence, rating boards, and executing projects.
- The Lab Technician prepares substrates by manually painting coatings prototypes on wood boards, cement fiberboard, aluminum, etc.
- Boards are mounted on an exposure rack outside for weathering, which requires up to 50% of time working outside.
- The test panels are retrieved at specified intervals and the Lab Technician carefully evaluates each prototype and notes visible film failure.
- An automated robotic unit is also utilized for panel evaluation.
- Prepare exposure boards to customer specific test methods
- Use and maintain the weathering laboratory tools such as balances, spectrophotometers, gloss meters
- Collect, manage, and validate all weathering data for easy and meaningful retrieval in the future.
- Actively participate in all ISO, 5S and safety practices and programs.
