JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Support Resource RN supports high quality, patient-centered care by offering feedback, guidance, and mentoring to new graduate nurses and/or nurses that are transitioning to NCH. The Resource Nurse supports all clinical med/surg/telemetry units. The Clinical Support Resource Nurse provides cross coverage at both main hospital locations Baker & North Naples. This role serves to guide and educate on the hospital’s standard of nursing practice, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agency requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs rounds on the nursing units to observe/assess patient acuity and evaluate the need for intervention.
- Identify nursing educational needs.
- Acts as a resource for new to practice nurses, escalating concerns about nursing skills, patient care, and processes to leadership as appropriate.
- Serves as a positive professional role model, exhibiting clinical leadership and decision-making skills.
- Performs patient care, coordinates care delivery, utilizes the nursing process.
- Functions as a subject matter expert. Develops educational information for the nursing units as needed.
- Employs patient teaching to promote health and safety.
- Contributes to improving nurse satisfaction/engagement by serving as a role model and mentor, coaching staff in effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication, which includes active listening, and facilitating teamwork with RNs, non-licensed and interprofessional staff.
- Assists patient care staff or may directly educate the patient and family.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex and/or highly specialized patient care situations to patient care providers and other health care professionals.
- Attends rapid responses and codes as needed; to observe, provide feedback, and debrief, facilitate education, direction, & coaching; before, during, & after the rapid response or code as indicated.
- Leads and identifies opportunities for practice changes.
- Practices ethically.
- Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.
- Integrates evidence and research finding into practice.
- Contributes to quality nursing practice and shared decision making (SDM) by supporting council decisions, implementation of decisions and active participation in SDM.
- Communicates effectively in all areas of practice.
- Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting.
- Utilizes appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
- Practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner.
- Accountable to foster, participate, and be knowledgeable with the shared decision-making model at NCH Healthcare System.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 2 years of acute care or nurse educator experience.
- BSN strongly preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- RN who enjoys teaching opportunities and is confident in their nursing knowledge and skills.
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
