Job Description
A top chemical manufacturer is looking for a bachelor’s or master’s degree chemist who has 5+ years of direct experience formulating, performing technical service, and application work with cementitious materials. The company is extremely stable and offers excellent benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set strategy for North American market in coordination with the Decorative Coatings Manager and Construction Chemical Manager
- Perform and lead technical service experiments and projects
- Review and modify technical service protocol from the chemists
- Guide and train chemists on construction/cementitious chemicals test methods and formulations
- Draft reports of technical service experiments
- Interact with staff in Europe on processes, problem solving, and new products
- Relay technical information in informal and written report or presentation formats to customers, raw materials, employees, and visitors to the laboratory
- Travel to Europe for training purposes, as necessary
- Travel to customers and distributors (up to 30-40% of their time) to present lab TSR’s, new LP products & Projects to customers in North America independently or with Sales Staff and Manager
- Act as technical liaison to labs in Germany, Netherlands, US, and Mexico
- Present and attend seminars and trade shows, as necessary
- Order and maintain stock of needed raw materials for construction chemicals lab
- Interface with raw material suppliers regarding pigments, resins, and starting point formulations
- Guide chemists in the lab with project recommendations, SPF information and LP screening based on market experience
- Prepare demonstration materials for use by our sales and distribution staff as directed by Managers & Application Technology Specialists
- Evaluate competitive products as agreed upon by managers
- Evaluate new construction/cementitious chemicals raw materials
- Handle hazardous waste according to procedure
- Follow emergency response procedures
- Proactively address and correct all unsafe behaviors and conditions
- Maintain an orderly workplace
- Prepare monthly reports of activities performed
- Respond to customer technical inquiries
- Complete RCRA and DOT Awareness training
- Participate in emergency response as defined in the program and training capability
- Data Entry
Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- BS in Chemistry or related
- Minimum of 5 years of cementitious or construction coatings formulation experience
- Ability to distinguish fine variations in color and gloss
- Data entry skills
- Ability to work with chemicals (particularly additives, pigments, binders, solvents)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to drive a car
- Ability to travel
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of additives
- Sales and business knowledge of Chemicals market
- Understanding of construction/cementitious chemicals application methods
- Understanding of problems and defects encountered in construction chemicals formulation and application
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of working procedures for the performance of technical service requests and projects
- Knowledge of physical and health hazards associated with the use of chemicals
- Knowledge of computer programs necessary to perform job accurately
