Nurse Aide - Surgical Stepdown - Part Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days)

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Aide - Surgical Stepdown - Part Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days). In this role, under the supervision of the registered nurse, you will perform routine service duties and basic nursing procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients. You will maintain patient and service rooms in a clean and orderly condition and assist with the preparation of the room and equipment for diagnostic procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Deliver basic nursing care to meet the care and comfort needs of the patient.
- Respond to patient's call lights promptly to determine needs and relay information to nursing personnel.
- Observe the patient and report any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
- Assist the patient in activities of daily living including nourishment, ambulation, and personal care.
- Provide direct nursing care by performing tasks such as vital signs, complete/partial baths, skin care, Foley catheter care, enemas, and specimen collection.
- Demonstrate proper turning, positioning, and transferring techniques when providing patient care.
- Distribute patient nourishment and assist with feeding as indicated.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Identify the patient prior to care delivery by checking the identification arm band.
- Recognize safety hazards and act promptly and appropriately.
- Complete patient rounds regularly to monitor for safety.
- Utilize proper body mechanics and safety measures during transferring or lifting of patients or equipment.
- Demonstrate compliance with the measures outlined in the Falls Prevention Program.
- Accept care assignments willingly and assist other staff members as required.
- Work collaboratively with management to improve the environment of care.
- Participate in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices.
- Attend educational programs offered in the hospital to maintain competence.
- Comply with staff meeting attendance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a High School Diploma or GED, BLS certification (AHA only), and first aid training. De-escalation training will be provided on the job. You should have the ability to read and write at an elementary school level, perform simple arithmetic calculations, and possess interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and their families. Basic analytical skills to gather data and report outcomes are also required. You must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and possess excellent customer service skills.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with New York state law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $23.92 - $23.92 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on various factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
