Responsible for providing nursing care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a registered nurse and in accordance with the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the RN in the observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Provide nursing care to an assigned group of patients using proper techniques, procedures, and safety precautions to meet individual patient needs.
- Administer oral, IV intramuscular, subcutaneous, and related medications according to established policies and procedures.
- Monitor IV infusions and blood transfusions on assigned patients including observing and regulating the flow rate and observing insertion site.
- Assist physicians and patients during examinations, procedures, and/or diagnostic tests as required.
- Observe assigned patients and report any patient care problem, change in patient condition, or unexpected occurrences to RN.
- Provide patient/family teaching and evaluate patient’s understanding. Assist with patient discharge or transport planning.
- Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information, legibly, accurately, and completely.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients in accordance with hospital standards.
- Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in-services, and/or reading journals.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program and more than six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State Licensure is also required.
