General Biological (GB) is a pioneering industrial chemical and hardware manufacturing company developing the next generation of sustainable, low-cost biomanufacturing technologies. Our mission is to establish a new era of chemical products and physical materials derived from renewable carbohydrates rather than fossil fuels.
Central to our approach is vertical integration - positioning ourselves at the intersection of biotechnology, chemistry, and integrated hardware-software engineering to rapidly scale our innovative technology stack. The GB platform harnesses a non-model organism with remarkable metabolic flexibility and low sterility requirements, allowing us to truly industrialize biotech. By building custom bioreactor hardware and downstream operations, we fully leverage these properties to dramatically reduce capital and operating costs while accelerating implementation.
GB is assembling our founding team to join us in building a generational company that will transform scalable bioproduction practices for modern heavy industry.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Microbiology Lab Technician to support our research and development efforts. This position will play a crucial role in assisting with lab operations and executing experiments alongside our team of biologists and chemists.
As GB pursues vertical integration, you will have exciting opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary project teams working on end-to-end hardware and process solutions. We are looking for someone who is detail oriented, efficient, and eager to learn.
The ideal candidate will help drive GB's success by applying their strong background in molecular biology techniques and, preferably, hands-on experience working with prokaryotic organisms. This role involves the execution of general lab maintenance tasks, materials acquisition work, experimental workflows, data collection, and problem-solving - requiring a first principles mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the execution of experiments related to microbial strain development and optimization
2. Prepare and maintain bacterial cultures, media, and reagents following established protocols
3. Perform basic molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis
4. Conduct routine lab maintenance tasks, including equipment upkeep, inventory management, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment
5. Collect, record, and analyze experimental data, and contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations
6. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot experimental challenges and optimize protocols
7. Assist in the development and implementation of new lab processes and procedures to improve efficiency and productivity
Required Qualifications:
· B.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant lab or industry experience
· Strong background in basic molecular biology workflows and common tasks performed in a biology lab setting
· Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, with keen attention to detail
· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
· Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications:
· Hands-on experience working directly with prokaryotic organisms
· Experience with large-scale microbial cultures or bioreactor systems
· Familiarity with industrial biotechnology or bioprocess development
· Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a laboratory setting
· Experience with data analysis and visualization software
What We Offer:
· Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package
· Opportunities for professional growth and development
· A collaborative and innovative work environment
· The chance to make a significant impact in the field of sustainable chemical production
If you are passionate about applying your expertise to develop groundbreaking solutions for the chemical industry, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity at General Biological.
