Job Summary:
The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse, Ambulatory Care Services, Suite I. Licensed Practical Nurses provide direct nursing care to individuals in a variety of settings under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or other licensed health care provider, in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law.
Illustrative Duties
- Assists registered nurses, physicians, or other licensed health care providers in the identification of individuals’ needs and participates in the development of plans to address goals.
- Administers medications and nursing procedures to individuals as prescribed.
- Obtains and records individuals’ vital signs using standard instruments and procedures.
- Observes, monitors, and records individuals’ symptoms and conditions to provide information for diagnosis and treatment; reports observations to a registered nurse, physician, or other licensed health care provider.
- Prepares individuals for or assists with examinations and treatments.
- Maintains charts and other records of individuals’ conditions and/or administered treatments.
- Attends to individuals’ personal needs, including activities of daily living and hygiene tasks.
- Educates and counsels individuals and/or families regarding their health, medications, treatment goals and procedures.
- May perform housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for individuals.
- Monitors supply inventories and completes requisition forms.
- May observe and supervise the activities of unlicensed direct care staff to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Eligible for or possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; Variable Hours (Full-Time)
Salary Grade/Rank: SG10
Salary Range: $43,768 - $53,708 Base Salary plus $4,000 Geographic Differential plus $3,400 Location Pay
