Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse who assumes accountability for operational management of the clinical care area and ensures quality clinical decision-making for all patients’ plans of care and follow-up care. Working under the oversight of the Medical Director and Director of Nursing and Clinical Services, the Nurse Manager ensures the overall operational flow of the healthcare facility. This includes coordination and collaboration with the healthcare team to deliver high-quality primary and preventive healthcare services to a multi-cultural, uninsured population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct all patient care issues, including patient flow and nurse direction during clinical sessions.
- Manage 15-25 phone encounters per day, including triaging sick calls, managing test/procedure results, and handling medical record requests.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director, Associate Medical Directors, and Operations Manager as part of the medical management team.
- Promote clinical staff productivity, act as a clinical resource, patient advocate, and role model.
- Track patient care follow-up and assist in developing programs to enhance patient care.
- Act as a Patient Care Navigator, working closely with primary and specialty practitioners and other services.
- Record all patient care information in BVMI’s EMR system.
- Manage nursing functions, including scheduling volunteer nurses and ensuring sufficient support.
- Teach new nurses the EMR system and evaluate volunteer nurses’ skills.
- Ensure compliance with medication and storage reporting requirements.
- Track medical supplies and coordinate with the Director of Operations for replacements.
- Ensure proper and safe autoclave sterilization of medical instruments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to manage a changing work environment with attention to detail and efficiency.
- Effective communication skills and strong working relationships with management, staff, volunteers, practitioners, and administrative departments.
Employment Standards:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
- Experience in a multi-physician practice or hospital-based ambulatory service.
- Minimum of 2-5 years recent experience as a Nurse Manager, preferably in Primary Care.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a large volunteer staff.
- Experience with electronic medical records.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
