At Southern Crop, our Cultivation Technicians serve as our first line of contact with our plants, ensuring our crops thrive. The Cultivation Technician is responsible for ensuring our plants have fulfilled nutrient and IPM needs at the direction of our Cultivation Supervisors. Therefore, a Cultivation Technician should feel comfortable with manual plant operations including trimming, cloning, watering, and spraying plants as needed. The primary function of the Cultivation Technician is to support our cultivation team towards plants that thrive and produce the best harvest possible.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Physical, repetitive agricultural work following directions from supervisors.
- Waters and applies plant nutrients and chemicals or pesticides as directed.
- Moves, arranges, and physically handles plants as directed including disposal of waste.
- Applies METRC tags to plants and assists in inventory counts and reports variances.
- Supports the team in keeping records of pesticides, fertilizer, or other cycle counting.
- Follow all standard procedures and security measures to safeguard against diversion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Present themselves in a professional, helpful, positive, team-working manner.
- Assist with cleanliness of the plant cultivation area.
- Follow directions for the safe use of chemicals including fertilizer, pesticides, cleaners.
- Able to communicate and follow directions appropriately.
- Maintain a sense of urgency and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule by assisting in other departments when needed.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High-school diploma or equivalent, Agriculture or Horticulture degree is a plus.
- General cannabis education is preferred but not required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must hold a valid form of identification (Driver's license, state ID).
- Prior experience in cultivation, agriculture, horticulture, or other related discipline.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 lbs to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance.
- Must be able to work seated/standing as appropriate at workstations for extended periods of time, maintain body equilibrium while climbing ladders, stairways, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, and use hands/fingers to hold, grasp, turn, pick, pinch frequently/constantly to complete tasks.
- Must be able to handle organic matter daily, able to wear PPE as appropriate (eye, face, hand, arm, head, foot, body, fall protection).
- Must have visual acuity with/without job aids to perform activities such as reading, viewing a computer terminal, visual inspection involving small parts/details. Clarity of vision at 20 ft or more in day and night/dark conditions.
- Must be able to speak and communicate verbally at conversation levels with co-workers, vendors, etc. (Moderate noise).
WORK SCHEDULE
- Current schedule is 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
- This position will work an average of 40 hours per week and will be available "after hours" (nights or weekends) if an emergency should arise, or if otherwise needed at the discretion of management.
