Position Summary: The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks and laboratory procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This role involves preparing samples, conducting tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sample Collection and Preparation: Collect, label, and prepare biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for analysis.
- Laboratory Testing: Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests, including but not limited to hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and immunology.
- Data Recording: Accurately record and analyze test results using laboratory information systems (LIS) and ensure proper documentation of all procedures.
- Quality Control: Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities, including calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Patient Interaction: Occasionally interact with patients to collect samples and provide information about laboratory procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent by a recognized certifying agency (e.g., American Society for Clinical Pathology - ASCP).
- Experience: Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with LIS.
