POSITION SCOPE:
The Mary Campbell Center is first, last, and always, home to 68 residents. The Physical Therapist is responsible for collaborating & leading the Center's physical therapy team in ensuring services are delivered with a high degree of quality in a truly homelike environment in which MCC residents live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the fullness of their abilities. The Physical Therapist is charged with planning, implementing and supervising a diversified set of physical programs suited to the unique needs, abilities and interests of permanent and respite residents while adhering to the MCC Guiding Principles and Mission. The Physical Therapist must work reliably, effectively, efficiently, and with respect for residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants, and the physical environment of the Center.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The Physical Therapist at the Mary Campbell Center must 1) be a good person of high character who consistently works with a positive attitude and demonstrates compassion and understanding for residents with varying degrees of disability, and 2) possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapist must be able to motivate participation, generate enthusiasm, create appropriate programs and be capable of effectively supervising and training staff and volunteers. The Physical Therapist must possess the ability to lift and transfer an adult and use a lift device proficiently when required. In addition, he/she should possess verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in utilizing technology tools to effectively manage program reporting and achieve department goals. Previous successful experience working with those with disabilities and/or in a rehabilitative setting is preferred. This position is scheduled for 20 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Completes formal physical therapy respite evaluations on all assigned residents according to MCC procedures and federal regulations.
- Develops relevant treatment goals for residents and participants according to established procedures.
- Provides "hands on" physical therapy to residents and participants and supervises the therapy and/or activity programs of PT Assistants and interns as needed.
- Provides recommendations for wheelchairs & equipment for residents.
- Collaborates with other therapists and professional staff to resolve problems, address needs, and develop strategies to promote functionality in residents and participants.
- Follows established procedures for documentation of physical therapy and related services.
- Conducts training for all staff as needed in the areas of proper lifting/transferring techniques, as well as other specific resident focused areas.
- Produces justification(s) as per Medicaid requirements for the acquisition of durable medical equipment for residents. Follows up as necessary.
- Serves on other MCC committee assignments as directed by the Director of Resident Experience or his/her designee. Serves as a professional member of the MCC Interdisciplinary Team.
- Communicates effectively with other staff regarding information that needs to be shared using email.
- Develops written Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and objectives to address the unique needs/interests of residents.
- Documents, as required, resident's progress on IPPs/progress notes.
- Serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and works cooperatively to solve problems and to address the needs of residents.
- Participates in Interdisciplinary staffing and annual reviews and completes functional assessments.
- Evaluates and compiles resident's participation data.
- Purchases needed supplies/equipment; keeps inventory and maintains a current accounting of expenses toward the budget.
- Makes recommendations for annual budget needs and supplies.
- Ensures positive public relations with community volunteers and organizations by choosing appropriate written and verbal techniques.
- Brings any safety hazards to the attention of the Assistant Executive Director Resident & Community Services or appropriate department head.
- Completes all mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
