GENERAL DUTIES
Manages the care of patients:
- Triages patients in the office and on the telephone to determine the need for immediate medical attention. Communicates information to physician.
- Records allergies, vital signs, reason for visit, current medications, social and past medical history, abuse, fall risk, functional assessment and advance directives in patient record’s medical record.
- Assesses each patient for all appropriate screenings prior to the patient being seen by the physician. Ensures all Hedis codes are submitted for each visit.
- Discusses plan of care with physician before, during and following patient visit.
- Verifies physician’s order, prepares and administers medications and treatments to patients. Documents administration of medication/treatments in patient’s record and submits charges as required. Assesses the patient pre and post medication/treatment.
- Verifies physician’s order, prepares medication and required vaccine administration paperwork. Administers immunizations and documents all vaccine information in patient’s record. Assesses patient pre and post immunization.
- Cleans, sanitizes and reorganizes patient room after each visit.
Communicates with patients, pharmacies, hospitals and other medical related personnel:
- Communicates information between patients and physicians regarding lab/test results, medications, appointments, etc.
- Communicates with pharmacies regarding patient medication. Ensures prior authorizations are completed timely for patient medications.
- Sorts and distributes correspondence and scans into patient’s medical record after physician review and sign off.
- Ensures test/lab reports for patients are present in the medical record prior to the visit.
- Responds to incoming patient messages, chart messages promptly and records all communication in patient record.
Prepares patient for procedures performed in the office:
- Assembles and organizes supplies required for procedures. Provide privacy and instructions to patient, pre and post procedure.
- Assist physician during procedure, obtain specimen and complete appropriate paperwork. Deliver specimen to designated location.
- Applies supportive devices or bandages on patient, as ordered by physician. Documents appropriate information in patient’s record.
Monitors and orders medications and medical supplies:
- Keeps medications and supplies organized and discard out of date items.
- Orders the necessary medications and supplies to assure adequate supply of stock.
- Stores medications properly and utilizes High Alert stickers on lookalike/sound alike medications.
- Ensures all multi-dose medications are labeled with the date opened, expiration date and the nurse's initials.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensures all clinic logs are completed daily and only the current month log is available. All previous month logs are stored in a binder for review as required.
- Ensures the emergency kit and oxygen is checked monthly and the red lock is replaced monthly or after each use.
- Checks for expired medication and supplies throughout the clinic at least monthly. Advise Office Manager and education nursing staff on any expired findings.
- Ensures all surgical instruments are stored appropriately and packaging is intact.
- Ensures any regulatory issues identified are reported promptly to the Office Manager and tickets are submitted electronically as necessary.
Office Communication and Nursing Staff Training/Orientation:
- Participates in all scheduled clinic meetings.
- Ensures all newly hired nursing personnel are oriented to the clinic and to all computer programs.
- Trains newly hired employees on the clinic processes and flow using the new employee competency checklist as a guide.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years Related experience.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an Accredited LPN Program.

CPR
Louisiana LPN Unencumbered Licensure
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
CPR certified.
Professional demeanor.
