JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, with respect for the beliefs and values of co-workers, patients and their families. Functions in the spirit of teamwork and is accountable for the delivery of care utilizing those skills learned in both the clinical and didactic arena. Assists surgeon with procedures related to the care of patients of all ages during surgical intervention. Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards. Accountable to the Registered Nurse and the Pod coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Individual must provide evidence of one of the following:
- Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and maintains a surgical technologist certification; new graduates of accredited surgical tech programs may obtain certification within six months of graduation.
- Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the US Army, Navy, or Air Force.
- Previously employed to practice surgical technology by the hiring Penn State Health (PSH) health care facility on or before December 29, 2020, or had been employed to practice surgical technology as the primary function at another healthcare facility at any time during the two years prior to December 29, 2020.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in workload, staffing and scheduling.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum three years previous operating experience preferred.
BLS certification preferred. Required within 60 days of employment.
