POSITION SUMMARY: The Mammography Technologist Training Program provides the opportunity for radiologic technologists to obtain the education, training, and career opportunities to excel and grow with Charlotte Radiology. Throughout the program, technologists receive paid, on-the-job training to ensure they become outstanding mammography technologists. In 12 short weeks, our program provides all required clinical and education credits to earn ARRT advanced certification in mammography. After certification, there is guaranteed employment with Charlotte Radiology.
The Mammography Technologist performs technical activities associated with screening mammography procedures to obtain high quality images of the breasts and serves as an integral part of providing an exceptional patient care experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate mammographic and other imaging equipment/devices in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Position patients, using immobilization when necessary.
- Evaluate radiographs for image quality, adjusting position, density, or contrast and obtaining additional images as needed.
- Explain screening procedures to patients.
- Prepare exam rooms and equipment for studies, ensuring cleanliness and adequate stock/inventory of clinical supplies.
- Obtain, verify, and document all pertinent information for patient visits, including patient clinical history and prior imaging.
- Identify care requirements relative to each patient’s age-specific needs.
- Use radiation safety measures and protective devices to comply with government regulations and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Assist with onboarding and training new Mammography Technician I’s.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensing/Certification:
- Successful completion of a certified radiology technologist program.
- ARRT certification in radiography.
- ARRT advanced certification in mammography must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
- BLS CPR certification.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret medical reports.
- Anatomic knowledge of breast tissue pattern and related structures as well as breast pathology and treatment of breast pathology.
- Knowledge of radiographic technique and positioning.
- Excellent customer service, both internal and external.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Primarily walking and standing.
- Lift up to 25lbs.
- Role may be exposed to radiation, infectious disease, and bloodborne pathogens.
