Job Summary
Responsible for carrying out the instructions of the Director of Wellness. Supervise and monitor nursing staff to obtain the highest quality care by performing routine nursing duties. Accountable to Director of Wellness/Executive Director for all nursing department activities and maintaining the corporate philosophy of quality care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise HHAs, CNAs, and the facility staff.
- Make daily rounds of all Assisted Living residents and retirement residents if needed.
- Observe and report symptoms and conditions of patients to Director of Wellness “DOW” /Delegating R.N./Physician.
- Administer medications and treatments per signed doctor’s orders in an accurate, safe manner, observe effectiveness and report to physician if needed.
- Inform DOW of when supplies and equipment are needed.
- Order medication from pharmacy when needed.
- Supervise the Home Health Aide to ensure that all nursing care is given properly, safely, and of the utmost quality.
- Administer emergency first aid.
- Assure that daily assignments for patient care and incidental duties performed by nurse and HHA as outlined by DOW are carried out.
- Make daily rounds of all patients and areas. Recognize, interpret, and report conditions to the DOW/RN/ED as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and neatness of the nurse’s station, med room, and cart.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff.
- Complete admission and discharge evaluations as necessary.
- Check equipment for cleanliness and condition.
- Provide guidance for nursing assistants.
- Promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships with residents, visitors, and personnel.
- Perform related work as required per assignment. Understand duties and responsibilities are carried out for both assisted living and independent residents throughout the facility.
Note:
The above duties include many of the tasks for LPN. At times it may be necessary to perform other duties as requested by the Assisted Living Manager. Refusal to perform any task as directed by the General Manager will be cause for disciplinary action.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program, currently licensed to practice per state.
- Work experience in the geriatric field.
- Ability to communicate well and in writing.
- Ability to deal with visitors, staff, and residents in a courteous manner.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure at times.
- Must be able to perform good grooming practices, personal hygiene, and be punctual and regular in attendance.
- Must have a warm, friendly, congenial personality. Must present a professional appearance and possess an empathetic attitude towards seniors.
- Ability to assess a resident’s condition and intervene when needed.
- CPR certified, or obtained within 90 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
