Position Summary
The University of New Mexico's Center for Memory & Aging is seeking Project Manager and Research Coordinator for the clinical core of the newly funded New Mexico Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (NM ADRC). New Mexico is joining a group of Universities across the United States who focus on improving research and treatment for people with Alzheimer's Disease and related Dementias. While the term end is 4/30/2025, the grant is expected to be funded through at least 2029.
This position is a critically important part of the Clinical Core of the NM ADRC. The selected will work closely with the Clinical Core Leaders and will be the lead staff member for this core.
Main responsibilities will be in overseeing the project coordination of the local site within the grant consortium. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring project milestones are met, as well as day to day coordination of the human research project. The project involves longitudinal study of patients with Alzheimer's disease, including collection of MRI, cognitive, neurological, blood as well as optional studies, including PET, CSF and add on MRI studies. This position will supervise research coordinators as well as community health workers who work directly with participants. The project also involves overseeing the coordination/management of the clinical data collection at outlying sites including Zuni and Acoma Pueblos. The clinical core collaborates closely with many other multiple cores within the UNM ADRC. The position may include developing or modifying IRB documents for submission to the HRPO (IRB), or work closely with other staff for these documents. Position may require occasional out of state travel to national meetings, as well as occasional travel to the Zuni Pueblo or other locations within NM.
Additional responsibilities will include working as backup research coordinator and may include a cohort of participants for ongoing research studies, which includes recruiting, scheduling and screening patients, conducting assessments, ensuring protocol adherence for each specified study, and maintaining accurate records. Duties also include the collection, compilation, and management of study data and review of patient records for past and present health issues. Weekly consensus diagnosis meetings will be coordinated by this position in conjunction with the other core contributions.
The individual in this position must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community, particularly older adults with cognitive difficulties and their families. This position also requires a person with professional presentation and interpersonal skills. The selected person must be adept at organization and project management. This employee will work with confidential information and data, work directly with patients, schedule and coordinate research appointments and examinations. Position may also include other clinical assessments, such as drawing and processing of blood samples, ECGs, vitals.

Conditions of Employment
- NM Licensure as a Registered Nurse may be required, as appropriate to the individual position.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
- UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to applicants who also have the following (must be detailed in Resume or Cover Letter):
- Managing or working with multi-site NIH clinical research studies
- Project management
- Report writing and grant management correspondence
- Working with diverse patients, both cultural and age
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with older patients and their families
- Experience working with IRB and maintaining regulatory documentation
- Recruiting, scheduling and maintaining rapport with patients and their families
- Experience administering research assessments
- Experience drawing and/or processing blood
