Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for the operational compliance with federal and state rules and regulations surrounding pharmacy practice and tactical implementation of pharmacy initiatives. Oversight responsibilities of the pharmacy manager may entail retail, infusion services, hospital or other pharmacy services. This functional leader is responsible for managing and leading pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support staff who provide patient care or supportive services for respective areas of oversight. The leader partners with site nursing, medical, and administration leaders to optimize patient care through pharmacy services and ensures appropriate drug storage, preparation, and patient monitoring to meet the needs of patients. Finally, the manager will lead and manage pharmacy patient care services and operations, medication use outcomes, projects, and human resource management. All responsibilities are accomplished in collaboration with the director of pharmacy or system-level pharmacy leadership team in coordination with the site-specific leadership team.
Essential Job Functions
Provides management and oversight of pharmacy related activities within the department and supportive of system-level initiatives involving change and support for pharmaceutical care across the hospital.
Develops and supports initiatives to manage pharmacy operating budget and institute operational initiatives to implement cost containment strategies that benefit the organization.
Promote and enhance pharmacy care by providing leadership and support to patient care and quality initiatives in acute and non-acute areas (clinical activities, Meds-to-Beds, dosing services). This may entail leading or participating in committees.
Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff to schedules. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates recommendations for personnel actions.
Assesses and standardizes medication dispensing practices and pharmacy workflows and encourages team member growth and development. Staff oversight and ensuring workforce is trained for drug distribution and clinical services.
Develops and establishes operation and clinical procedures consistent with accrediting bodies, as well as state and federal rules overseeing pharmacy practice. Establishes policies to ensure adequate execution; appraises and evaluates subordinate and system performance regularly.
Collaborates with IT and supply chain across organization to support safe, standard, and effective medication usage and practices and works to ensure staff are trained on new systems or procedures.
Partners with Director on financial planning, budgeting, and capital projects.
Participates in the education of pharmacy students and residents as applicable.

Licensing/Certification
Pharmacist Licensure – State Board of Pharmacy required
Education
Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or PharmD (required). Advanced pharmacy degree – Doctor of Pharmacy, Masters, Residency (preferred)
Work Experience
3 years of experience in a progressive hospital or healthcare system pharmacy leadership role preferred

Working Conditions
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May have periods of constant interruptions. General office environment. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.
