Contact: Responsibilities The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients and works with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care.
- Prepares patients for ultrasound examination.
- Explains procedures to the patient prior to testing and provides education related to medical ultrasound.
- Ensures appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained.
- Conducts ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records data for interpretation by a physician.
- Assists physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and charts.
- Codes appropriately for services performed; submits completed billing work sheets daily.
- Maintains proper operation of ultrasound equipment and recognizes malfunctions.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing individual beliefs.
- Complies with safety and security training and OSHA standards.
- Completes all required Compliance Training.
- Participates in staff development and professional activities.
- Performs other assigned duties as directed.
Qualifications - Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician in pediatric and/or adult echocardiography preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Fetal experience is preferred; training will be provided.
- Additional certification through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is preferred.
Requirements:
- Possess or be eligible for certification in adult and/or pediatric echocardiography through ARDMS.
- Must adhere to certification maintenance requirements through ARDMS.
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited Allied Health Educational Program and one year on-the-job training in cardiac ultrasound, or completion of an approved cardiac ultrasound educational program.
- CPR certification required.
- New graduates must obtain an appropriate credential within one year from graduation.

The expected pay for this position ranges from $34.62 - $64.18 per hour based on experience and certification.
