Position Summary
The RN utilizes the nursing process as well as clinical nursing practice standards and is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for the Infusion Center patient. Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, directing unlicensed employee activity, synthesizing patient information, assessing patients, planning care/interventions, teaching patients/family, implementing treatment plan/MD orders, and evaluating care rendered. The RN must effectively communicate and document data relevant to the care of the patient.
The RN utilizes knowledge of patient age, cultural diversity, psycho-social and/or spiritual needs into the patient’s plan of care. The RN contributes to the promotion of quality nursing care through performance improvement processes that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. In addition, the RN collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
- Administer chemotherapy and immunotherapy, including leveraging necessary technology/tools (pumps, ports, etc).
- Utilizes the nursing process and practice standards as a framework for the management of patient care.
- Analyzes the assessment data to determine a nursing diagnosis and appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrates leadership in the coordination of patient care across the healthcare continuum with progress towards meeting desired patient outcomes.
- Delegates to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective critical thinking skills.
- Prioritizes essential functions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.
- Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
- Formulates a teaching plan, based on identified patient learning needs, and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching plan as necessary.
- Serves as a role model and mentors new staff members.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, and other sensitive material in printed, electronic, or verbal form.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- One year of Acute Care experience in Oncology or Ambulatory Infusion (chemotherapy related) nursing highly preferred.
- Extensive experience with peripheral and central venous access devices and chemotherapy infusion therapy preferred.
- Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Current California RN License required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher preferred.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider required or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
- Current ONS/ONCC certification highly preferred.
