DEFINITION:Provides technical guidance to respiratory care practitioners and ancillary personnel performing respiratory care services. Evaluates equipment, supplies, and staffing needs; seeks authorization for necessary resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Provides technical consultation to physicians regarding patients with serious respiratory problems.
- Demonstrates respiratory equipment and techniques to medical and nursing personnel.
- Observes quality and quantity of respiratory care services; communicates with nursing and medical personnel.
- Advises supervisor on personnel, equipment, and supply needs.
- Participates in internal and external transports of patients requiring continuous ventilation.
- Performs ventilator care services as prescribed by a physician.
- Administers complex therapies and performs Non-Bronchoscopic mini-BAL procedures.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:An Associate's degree in respiratory therapy from an accredited college or a certificate of completion of an approved two-year training program in respiratory therapy and one year of experience at the level of the Los Angeles County Senior Respiratory Care Practitioner administering respiratory care to acute patients.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:A certificate of completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support training and a California State Respiratory Care Practitioner's License.
PHYSICAL CLASS: 3-moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited college or university.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:Evaluation of training and experience based on application information and qualifications weighted 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher.
