Rank: Appointment level to any faculty position is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Salary: Nine-month position. Competitive salary depending on experience. The College also provides a comprehensive benefits package.
Tenure and Promotion: Tenure and promotion are awarded based on a review by a college-wide committee of the candidate’s contributions to service, pedagogy, and scholarship.
Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology Program, and a current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)(AST). Teaching experience is preferred; must possess effective communication skills, be proficient with the use of computers, Office 365, and virtual communication software.
Desired Qualifications: A master’s degree is preferred. Formal teaching and experience working with surgical technology students in a clinical setting is also preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaches Surgical Technology laboratories and clinical classes.
- Establishes clinical sites for the program.
- Coordinates and presents training sessions for site clinical educators as needed.
- Provides pre-clinical orientation for students.
- Visits and evaluates students and collaborates with clinical educators at clinical sites.
- Participates in program accreditation and re-accreditation, as necessary.
- Assists in curriculum development, course reports, and textbook selection.
- Uses instructional technology methods when presenting course content.
- Communicates effectively and efficiently with students.
- Provides written course syllabus which includes classroom policies, procedures, grading, and learning outcomes.
- Uses appropriate and up-to-date course materials, including learning objectives, texts, and supplementary teaching materials.
- Applies classroom management strategies in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online format.
- Implements student assessment policies, such as testing or observation of skills.
- Submits grades or other course assessment reports in a timely manner.
- Manages routine classroom responsibilities in a professional manner.
Professional Development:
- Participates in activities that advance professional competencies and teaching skills.
- Engages in activities that advance the teaching discipline or profession.
- Maintains or acquires appropriate or required certifications, licensure, or other professional credentials.
College Responsibilities and Service:
- Serving on department, school, and college-wide committees.
- Participating in the promotion and continuing contract process.
- Keeps scheduled office hours as required by the respective load formula for the purpose of academic advising.
- Records student attendance as necessary.
- Attends department, division, and college-wide academic functions.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of areas of discipline to be taught.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally through oral and written communications.
- Commitment to the community college mission, innovative and effective teaching, sustained and significant professional development, and service to the College.
- Computer literacy and the ability to navigate in a Windows environment.
