This role is generally responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in a vascular medical office. The Surgical Technician will collaborate with clinical leadership in the performance of the clinical and patient care aspects of his/her duties, and will always act within scope of practice under the authority of attending surgeon and nursing staff.
This role will report to the Office Manager for operational matters and to clinical leadership for clinical matters.
This role is non-exempt.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in procedure rooms
- Assemble surgical packs, supplies and instruments for cases
- Prepare procedure rooms for cases
- Maintain a sterile field
- Assist with inventory for procedure rooms
- Provide technical assistance to physicians and nurses
- Assist as needed with daily operations of the clinic and office-based lab, including
- Manage office telephone, including answering calls and providing 24 hour call backs to all patients as needed
- Assist with scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments
- Assist with patient referrals and insurance authorization for procedures
- Maintain patient medical information, including medical history and health insurance
- Maintain orders and stocks supplies
- Clean and sterilize equipment
- Prepare exam rooms and assist physicians and other clinical staff as needed
- Maintain HIPAA guidelines
Requirements:
- Surgical technician certification or within 6 months of graduation from accredited program
- BLS certification
- 1+ year experience in a medical setting, ideally surgical
- Excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions precisely
