About the Job
We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar for an industrially funded project. The research focuses on developing waterborne polymers with high levels of renewable biomass using renewable nanoparticles in heterogeneous polymerizations. The goal is to produce high-biomass latexes for coatings, sealants, plastics, films, and adhesives. The position is for one year and renewable annually, depending on funding and performance.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Synthesizing renewable monomers, polymers, and composites
- Characterizing raw materials and reaction products
- Overseeing product performance testing
- Managing and training undergraduate and graduate students
- Communicating research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at meetings, writing quarterly reports, and discussions with commercial partners
Duties/Responsibilities:
- 70% Laboratory Research
- 10% Training of graduate and undergraduate students
- 20% Writing manuscripts and presentations, and participation in meetings
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field
- Proven experience in synthesizing and characterizing polymers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in synthetic polymer chemistry, polymer characterization techniques, and mechanical testing of materials
- Background in emulsion polymerization and familiarity with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and nanofibrils
- Experience with NMR, SEC, DSC, DMA, and TEM
