This position provides medical assistance to the Primary Care Provider (PCP). The primary function is to greet and, screen the patients for the nature of illness in preparation for their appointment with the PCP. Provide excellent customer service.
Minimal Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited school/program
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program;
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant strongly preferred
- Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Must be professional, have a friendly demeanor and able to carry out assigned tasks
- COVID-19 vaccination and negative TB results are conditions of employment.
- Credentialing and Privileging required for this position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Interview patients to obtain medical information, i.e., assist PCP with completing patient clinical history
- Vital all patients
- Measure and records the following patient vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure and assessment of or lack of pain
- Complete vision and hearing screening as directed
- Handle all providers’ prescription calls
- Handle calls for shot records and form completion
- Measure and record patients’ height, weight and head circumference in babies
- Prepare exam rooms by selecting and placing required instruments and supplies for patient examination, i.e., Preparing PAP smear tray
- Assist Primary Care Provider (PCP) in their examination and treatment of patient, handing them instruments and materials
- Provide wound care: cleaning wound and changing dressing
- Perform electrocardiogram (EKG) as ordered by PCP
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses, i.e., urine dipstick, accu-check, HCG, etc.
- Prepare and administer medication as directed by PCP
- Administer immunizations directed by PCP
- Document in EHR/I-CARE
- Clean and sterilize instrument and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and PCPs instructions to patient
- Provide patient with patient education and materials
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set by management
- Weekly inventory of medical, lab, office supplies and equipment
- Record and track patient labs, test, referrals, mammograms, etc. in designated log books
- Provide optimal quality customer service and provide feedback to management regarding the level of customer satisfaction
- Responsible for logging labs, referrals, test, medications, etc.
- Follow all OSHA regulations
- Document immunizations, medications, vital signs, telephone contact with patients
- Keep examination rooms, clean and stocked
- Assist providers as needed in office and mobile health van
- Other duties as assigned
