Nursing Supervisor (LPN)

JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the DON or Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Ensure nursing care is provided through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- First and most important responsibility as a leader is to make those who report to you, and your colleagues BETTER.
- Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
- Gives and receives the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
- Ensures assigned work area (i.e. nurse station, med. Cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Ensure medication rooms and medication carts are locked according to regulation.
- Monitors supplies and orders as needed.
- Attends regularly conducted staff meetings as scheduled by the Director of Nursing.
- Manages and participates regularly in continuing education in-service programs.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Participates in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
- Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON as necessary and required, concerning the operation of the nursing services department.
- Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
- Ensures that all nursing services personnel comply with their respective job descriptions.
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance quality improvement program for the nursing service department.
- Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services.
- Assists the DON in planning the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan as necessary.
- Meets with the nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the department’s services, programs, and activities.
- Assists with and/or admits transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Completes accident/incident reports or investigation as necessary.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Provides staff training to nursing department members, residents and/or family members on policies and procedures as directed by the DON.
- Ensures that thorough, accurate communication takes place between nursing shifts to facilitate follow up on resident care needs.
- Conducts shift meetings with nurses and nursing assistants.
- Informs nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment etc.
- Ensures that rooms are ready for new admissions.
- Greets newly admitted residents upon admission. Escorts them to their rooms as necessary.
- Makes rounds at least three (3) times during the shift.
- Notifies the resident’s attending physician and next-of-kin when there is a change in the resident’s condition.
- Monitors residents on a daily basis in order to observe and evaluate each resident’s physical and emotional status.
- Ensures that direct nursing care be provided by a licensed nurse, a certified nursing assistant, and/or a nurse aide trainee qualified to perform the procedure.
- Ensures that counts for controlled drugs policies are followed.
- Participates in marketing events.
- Participates in the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care (“IPOC”) process as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Reports resident concerns, complaints, comments to appropriate Administrative personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident information.
- Knows and follows Villa Center Rules.
- Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs.
- Follows facility smoking policy.
- Reports and follows appropriate protocol to report any accidents/incidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate Administrative personnel.
- Reports any hazardous conditions/equipment.
- Understands and follows any Disaster Plans.
- Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.
- Follows and adheres to Villa’s policies and procedures regarding HIPAA compliance.
- Ensures integrity and confidentiality of all patient financial data.
- Reports all suspected violations of company’s HIPAA policies and procedures to appropriate Administrative personnel.
- Responsible, attentive, knowledgeable and provides high quality care to patients.
- Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Must be available to 24 hours a day on-call emergencies support.
- Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with short and long-term care residents and the elderly.
- Must be willing to participate in all-hands on dining.
- Possess excellent management skills including the delegation of responsibility to subordinates.
- Ability to read, writes, speak, and understand English.
- Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
- Demonstrate basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications. Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
- Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Long-Term Care experience preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
- Meet all health requirements as needed.
