Lead Certified Medical Assistant #Full Time
The Lead Certified Medical Assistant (LCMA) is an experienced professional with experience in the full array of CMA care, with a proven record of strong collaboration and leadership skills. In this role, the incumbent will lead a collaborative team of CMA professionals by providing day-to-day guidance and mentorship. This role will work closely with providers across multiple specialties as well as with other clinical and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture of Service-Oriented, Trust, Empathy, Safety, Inclusion, and Communication.
Job Responsibilities:
Clinical and Front Desk Support Duties
- Greet patients, visitors, etc. and answer telephone calls promptly.
- Pre-visit organization of information, perform patient escort and rooming functions, document chief complaints and update EMR as required.
- Assist patients with walking, dressing, collecting and processing specimen and point-of-care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Serve as chaperone in the exam room as requested.
- Assist physicians or other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and department-specific therapies as requested.
- Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care tests such as urinalysis and pregnancy tests.
- Prepare, label and deliver collected specimens.
- Ensure proper labs are drawn and documented via Epic. Assist in troubleshooting missing labs from Epic.
- Enter orders in Epic.
- Notify physicians and nurses of emergencies and perform first aid.
- Process, sterilize and organize instruments daily.
- Perform venipuncture and any additional specialty-specific duties as assigned.
- Prepare and maintain medical charts.
- Copy and mail requests for medical records.
- Perform additional check-out functions such as scheduling, referrals, and additional tasks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Administrative and/or Role-Specific Duties
- Assist Supervisor/Manager with daily staffing schedules, time off requests, same day absences, etc. Help to ensure adequate coverage and address any related issues.
- Serve as Preceptor for new and existing staff. Mentor CMAs.
- Identify areas for improvement in clinic operations and recommend alternative procedures, actions, or sources of information.
- Work collaboratively with front- and back-end support team and providers.
- Support communication or organizational initiatives, changes, or other issues as needed. Provide feedback to management. Serve as an advocate for team.
- Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices.
- Increase transparency, encourage event reporting and advance the safety culture.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new or less experienced CMAs. Share knowledge and offer guidance/mentorship.
- Maintain diagnostic equipment, perform QC testing and maintain supporting documentation.
- Maintain daily refrigerator/freezer logs, monthly AED logs, and other QA logs.
Job Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalency and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program, plus specialized certifications as needed.
- CMA must be certified by a credentialing body.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a medical assistant role.
- Current BCLS/AED certification required.
- Demonstrated proficiency and/or understanding of EMR systems.
- Prior experience in front desk support and/or workflows.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, adaptation to change, and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated proficiency with OSHA standards, including disposal of biohazard waste.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must have excellent communication & interpersonal skills and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
- Strong proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
- Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).
- Associate degree or additional academic coursework preferred.
- Multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting preferred.
- Prior Epic experience preferred.
- Prior experience in a training or senior CMA role preferred.
Hourly Rate Ranges: $25.25 - $35.58
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
