The Animal Resource Center’s Mission is to serve the community and pets of Montgomery County through effective public safety, humane animal welfare, and connecting pets to forever homes.
The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is a 24,000-square-foot open admission companion animal shelter. Our agency takes in thousands of dogs each year and works with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and the SICSA Pet Adoption Center, along with many placement partners to find homes for as many animals as possible.
Position Overview
As a member of the Clinic Team, the Animal Resources Clinic Veterinarian will support all medical-related programs, including the County's Animal Spay/Neuter Clinic and In-House Medical Care. Responsibilities include:
- Management and oversight of independent contractor Veterinarians and behavior staff.
- Upholding standards of care and protocols.
- Training skilled staff (Veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, shelter staff, and behavior staff).
- Collaborating on nursing care.
- Providing high-level customer service to animal care partners and members of the public.
- Performing related work as required.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Veterinary Services:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the mobile clinic and support the care of the Animal Resource Center veterinary clinic.
- Supervise employees and support standards of care for medical management.
- Initiate and manage contracts and formulate policies.
- Create and sustain best practices standard operating procedures.
- Support the development and maintenance of clinic protocols and directives.
- Conduct detailed reporting and data analysis into the Animal Resource Center central database.
Mobile Unit Responsibilities
Perform spay and neuter pre-surgical examinations, surgery, and post-surgical examinations on dogs, including pediatric sterilizations, vaccinations, and physical examinations.
In-House Support Responsibilities
Provide treatment, surgery, and follow-up for housed animals as needed. Conduct behavioral treatment plans and perform forensic duties, including post-mortem examinations. Maintain records and operational reports ensuring compliance with regulations.
Training and Compliance
Manage a comprehensive training curriculum for staff and volunteers regarding animal medical care and quality control. Assist with animal cruelty investigations and manage disease and sanitary conditions within the Animal Resource Center.
Prepare reports for judicial proceedings and coordinate with law enforcement as needed.
