Specific to Medical Laboratory Technician:
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate of a Diploma School Program.
- Certification/License/Registration by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), AMT, AAB, or equivalent.
Specific for Medical Technologist:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field.
- Certification/License/Registration by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology), AAB, AMT, or equivalent.
Overall:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintenance of strict HIPAA Regulations.
- Have the ability to assess the needs of the customer and effectively meet those needs.
- Have basic phlebotomy training
- Maintains the mission and values of Salem Township Hospital
- Willingness to accept responsibilities as assigned
Responsibilities
Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Lab Technician (MLT) generalist:
- Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision.
- Adheres to laboratory policies to maintain quality assurance
- Follows strict quality control protocols for the accuracy of results
- Follows laboratory procedures for instrument maintenance and function checks
- Documents corrective action where needed
- Utilizes hospital EMR and laboratory information systems for order entry, data entry, results verification, and QC activities
- Communicates effectively with other hospital departments
- Able to collect specimens from patients of all ages
