POSTDOC POSITION, YALE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, DIVISION OF HUMAN GENETICS IN PSYCHIATRY
We are seeking a highly motivated graduate student to join the Gelernter Lab, which focuses on the genetics of psychiatric illness, particularly posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and related traits. The work will involve:
- Genetics of posttraumatic stress disorder, suicidality, substance use disorders, depression, and anxiety, utilizing the Million Veteran Program dataset and others, including our Yale-Penn sample and Thai sample.
- Participating in Psychiatric Genomics Consortium projects targeting substance use disorder genetics, as well as depression and anxiety genetics.
- Conducting studies in non-European populations to enhance understanding of psychiatric traits in diverse groups.
Current projects include:
- NIDA-funded studies on methamphetamine genetics in Thailand.
- A training project in collaboration with Thai institutions.
- A VA-funded project in the genetics of PTSD and related traits.
- Studies on the epigenetics of psychiatric traits.
- Whole genome sequencing studies related to psychiatric traits.
- A NIDA-funded study on cannabis use genetics and PRS prediction of THC response.
- A newly-funded NIMH study focusing on depression and anxiety genetics using large biobank samples.
The ideal candidate should hold an MD or PhD and possess a strong background in human genetics and/or statistics, including knowledge of genome-wide methods such as GWAS and post-GWAS analysis, as well as bioinformatics expertise. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with peers at Yale and across national and international platforms and bring research to publication.
Our collaborative research division includes Dr. Gelernter and other faculty members, such as Drs. Renato Polimanti, Daniel Levey, Janitza Montalvo-Ortiz, Hang Zhou, and Joseph Deak, all of whom are prior Gelernter Lab trainees. The start date is flexible.
