The Embryologist I will work in a collaborative relationship with the Laboratory Director and/or Supervisor and other team members, as well as with other department employees.
Responsibilities:
- Independently handles embryology processes including egg retrievals, embryo transfers, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, Assisted Hatching, sperm preparation, embryo culturing, embryo evaluation and monitoring, cryopreservation of embryos, eggs and sperm, biopsy for Preimplantation Genetics Testing and lab processes associated with IVF urology procedures (TESE/MESA).
- Perform semen analyses, including sperm count, sperm motility, sperm morphology, viability. These procedures utilize manual microscopic methods. Perform routine sperm preps for inseminations and cryopreservation.
- Participate in Laboratory Operations as directed.
- Maintain accurate, current cryopreservation records. Accession and record donor and autologous frozen sperm specimens accurately when received, thawed, discarded, or transferred.
- Document patient care services by charting in patient and departmental records and filing clinical documents.
- Must demonstrate an aptitude for performance of laboratory services.
- Must demonstrate good work ethic with motivation for learning laboratory procedures.
- Aptitude to work independently and demonstrate good judgment.
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
- Knowledge of office procedure and office machines (i.e. computer, fax, copier, etc.)
- Participate in communication with co-workers.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science discipline required; master’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of prior experience in a human IVF laboratory preferred.
- Ability to participate in a rotating schedule that includes some weekends, holidays and early morning or late afternoon hours.
