Overview
The radiologic technologist conducts radiologic procedures as directed by the physician. Specific roles include:
- Prepares and observes the patient during radiologic procedures
- Instructs patient in what to expect during the procedure
- Observes patient's physical condition during the radiologic procedure
- Positions patient correctly for x-ray procedures
- Selects proper length and intensity of x-ray exposure for best quality films
- Conducts radiologic procedures as ordered by the physician
- Follows prescribed safety standards in operation of radiologic equipment
- Examines radiologic film for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, and distortion
- Maintains exam room equipment and supplies
- Stocks necessary medical and radiology supplies
- Delivers quality x-ray film to radiologist for reading/interpretation
- Develops and processes radiologic film
- Maintains quality control duties and documentation as required by ACR and FDA
- Conducts required quality control related to radiology
- Documents quality control results
- Maintains accurate medical records
- Completes documentation related to radiologic procedures during patient visit
