JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to hire a Research Technologist - Life Sciences (Professional) for The Girirajan Lab in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, for an NIH-funded Study of the human genetics of neurodevelopmental disorders. The purpose of this position is to coordinate and manage Penn State IRB-approved human genomics research projects. The position will entail recruitment of patients and families with genomic disorders into the research project, and assisting other laboratory members in the collection and analysis of patient data, and providing follow-up genetic counseling services to families after data analysis. Other responsibilities include fly husbandry, molecular biology experiments including DNA isolations, and assisting with Cell culture work as part of the funded projects.
Education and Experience
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in biology, biochemistry, psychology, human development and family studies, genetic counseling, or related fields would be ideal for this position, as would individuals with prior experience with genetic counseling in a research setting. Basic knowledge in genetics and human disease would be desired.
Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is desired for data storage and analysis. The candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills, must be reliable and punctual, and must have the ability to work well as part of a team.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $34,800.00 - $50,500.00
