Laboratory Supervisor (Evening / Sun.-Thur.)
Main Functions
Working under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Supervisor ensures that laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with our standards, to generate accurate and repeatable data that can be relied upon.
- Supervises testing activities to ensure repeatability and reproducibility of data while preserving productivity and integrity
- Ensures all data is recorded correctly in the appropriate data repository (LIMS) in a timely manner
- Champions a culture of excellence in the laboratory and strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's)
- Maintains inventory, places orders and ensures an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment
- Promotes a culture of health and safety in the laboratory at all times
- Investigates deviations related to laboratory methodologies or equipment
- Manages the laboratory equipment preventive maintenance and calibration program
- Participates in the implementation of new equipment and methodologies
- Participates in the monitoring of the environmental program (swabbing) as required
- Periodically reviews and audits laboratory technicians testing to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures
- Trains and coaches laboratory technicians
- Takes disciplinary action as needed in collaboration with lab management
- Coordinates analyses done through external laboratories as required
- Participates in ring tests and other proficiency tests as scheduled
- Performs hands-on laboratory testing as required
- On-site position with no remote work option
Technical Skills
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. Advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in microbiological laboratory supervision required.
- Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP's) and Good Manufacturing Practices.
An Asset
- Quality control experience with products of limited shelf-life is preferred.
- Experience with LIMS systems is a plus.
Personal Abilities
Required
- Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills / Proficient in English.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency in MS365 applications.
An Asset
- Strong understanding of and/or experience complying with ISO 17025.
General Criteria
Required
- Must be flexible to occasionally provide support during off-hours.
