£42k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement
Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care. Scanning children and adults, could you develop our existing radiology service to meet changing needs?
The radiography section has multiple imaging modalities including general radiography, CT, theatre fluoroscopy, mammography and ultrasound, with two full-time Radiographers and a part-time Assistant Practitioner. Working with the CMO at all stages to ensure that services planned and treatment given is acceptable and cost efficient within financial constraints, you must ensure the department is IRR99 and IR(ME)R 2000 compliant as far as possible, with regular QA and Audit.
Maintaining up-to-date professional technical knowledge, you will participate in CPD events and contribute to Clinical Governance and Strategic activity. You must train staff in a number of key areas and the Assistant Practitioner will need your support to maintain registration with the Society of Radiographers through training and CPD activities. You will of course seek distant telemedicine advice when appropriate.
Much of your time will be devoted to teaching and professional development of nurses and students, producing and updating protocols and guidelines and participating in clinical and staff meetings. You will share on-call cover arrangements for out-of-hours emergencies and offer radiographic support to the dental section when required. You will also provide a mammography service.
You must be a State Registered Radiographer with a current registration certificate and hold either a Diploma from the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent, plus post-graduate qualification in ultrasound and general radiography including CT. Substantial post qualification experience in general radiography should be supported by experience in ultrasound and CT with knowledge of PACS.
In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
