Job Description
Job Title: GI Technologist
Status: PRN
Hours: Variable
Reports to: Team Leader/ Surgicenter Director
Purpose of Job: Provide support to physicians performing procedures. Responsible for the care, handling and processing of endoscopy procedural equipment, and turnover of the procedure rooms. Acts as an advocate for the patient and maintains safety, confidentiality and dignity of the patient at all times.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or G.E.D required
- Basic Life Support certification required
- Previous experience in a GI setting (1 year minimum) recommended
- Must be in overall good health with satisfactory hearing and eyesight; must be able to bend, reach, and lift 50 lbs. using good body mechanics
- Knowledge of OSHA, AAMI, and AORN Standards and Recommended Practices for Sterilization and Disinfection recommended
- Must be self-motivated, professional and maintain a positive attitude
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Follows established protocols to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors.
- Demonstrates current competencies applicable to the position.
- Organizes and prioritizes tasks efficiently.
- Functions as an endoscopy technologist during procedures.
- Demonstrates correct use of instruments, devices, and suction, as directed by the physician.
- Assists team members in preparing the endoscopy suite for procedures.
- Assists in appropriate care, handling, and cleaning of equipment and instruments.
- Assists in terminal cleaning of the endoscopy suite between cases and at the end of the day.
- Follows employee handbook guidelines in regard to sick time, vacation, and dress code.
- Maintains accurate documentation on policies, procedures and sterilization records as recommended by AAMI Standards.
- Communicates pertinent information and suggestions to team leader.
- Interacts effectively with physicians, nurses, other health care professionals, and patients.
- Follows established protocols for preparing, using, and disposing of cleaning chemicals.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motions.
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
- Variety of standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting.
- Must be able to stand 6-8 hours/day.
- Hand and eye coordination.
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects.
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
