Job Summary
The Cancer Nurse Navigator position provides Distress Screening and cancer care navigation to patients diagnosed within the EMH system, but not undergoing treatment at EMCCC. The LEADS Survivorship Care Specialist schedules and conducts research protocol among lung cancer survivors and/or lung cancer caregivers who are enrolled in the Kentucky LEADS Lung Cancer Survivorship Care Program.
The Cancer Nurse Navigator and LEADS Survivorship Specialist ensures compliance with applicable laws and requirements with regard to programs and implementation, builds community partnerships with area physicians and staff; assists in the evaluation of the services; and other duties as required for the success of the service. Demonstrates a commitment to personal and professional growth. Contributes to the achievement of the mission of the Organization and department. Exhibits the values of F.I.R.S.T. Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort
Works in a clean, well lit, ventilated and air-conditioned office and in treatment areas as needed. Primarily light work requiring movement of up to 10 lbs. Majority of time work requires sitting, with some standing and walking. Ability to see fine print. Sufficient hand agility to allow typing, grasping, writing and similar activities. Minimum level of interruptions. Time restraints and deadlines require proactive planning.
Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
Education: Graduate of an accredited ADN nursing program, BSN preferred.
Experience: One or more years' experience in or exposure to research protocol and procedures is preferred. Management and program administration experience preferred. Demonstrated sensitivity for working within cultural diversity, racial/ethnic differences, and various socioeconomic environments.
EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Proficient computer skills required. Preferred knowledge of the Meditech and Varian Medonic software or equivalent, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Preferred knowledge of Motivational Interviewing. Must complete LEADS Survivorship Care Training. Must be skilled in medical terminology and diagnosis. Utilizes communication skills with high degree of effectiveness.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
Current RN License in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Maintains valid Driver's License. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (successful completion within three [3] months of employment).
