The Scientist- Biochemist is an integral part of our Laboratory Services team based out of our US - St. Paul, MN site.
The Scientist - Biochemist is an integral part of our Phibro Ethanol team based out of our Diagnostic Laboratory in St. Paul, MN. Phibro Ethanol is looking for a dynamic individual with strong knowledge and experience with enzymes for the fuel ethanol industry as a Scientist – Biochemist, to support the continuous growth of the Phibro Ethanol business in North America.
- In this position as a Scientist - Biochemist, you will work in close collaboration with our Phibro Ethanol development team and field colleagues to explore the functionality of different enzymes used within ethanol and starch conversion applications.
- You will mainly serve our internal stakeholders with technical support and documentation on enzyme products; however, you should also expect to be involved in selected customer opportunities.
- Through collaboration with the Phibro Ethanol team, you will be responsible for the development of solid technical knowledge of our enzyme product portfolio and demonstration of this to gain customer confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide customers with application support related to our enzyme solutions, with a specific focus on enzymes. The customer base will be mainly ethanol producers.
- Provide enzyme product technical support in close cooperation with the sales and technical service teams, product manager, and your colleagues in the Phibro Ethanol development team, including different customer facing activities such as customer visits/virtual calls as well as technical backup to our sales force.
- Be creative and explore the use of different analytical tools to demonstrate the functionality of the enzymes.
- Plan, design, and execute systematic experiments in our development lab including evaluation of results to optimize product performance.
- Document the effect of our enzyme portfolio in technical reports as well as present data through presentations for customers and internal colleagues (PowerPoint and other platforms).
- Assist in exploring and evaluating new business opportunities and identify key success factors to win business together with our sales team and business lead.
- Participate in customer development projects as well as concepts and internal development projects.
- Assist in the development and documentation of enzyme products throughout the commercialization process, including technical documentation, marketing material(s), presentations, post-launch support, invention disclosures, and intellectual property.
- Up to 15% travel may be required.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field. Candidates with an equivalent educational background and extensive hands-on experience in the ethanol industry are also encouraged to apply.
- 6-8 years of experience in product development or a related function with an industrial enzyme supplier or the ethanol industry. A proven interest and knowledge in the specific field is required.
- Must have the ability to engage collaboratively with customers and internal stakeholders, identify new business opportunities, and articulate value propositions at multiple levels within customers and Phibro Ethanol realms.
- Experience or competencies in the use of industrial enzymes will be considered a significant advantage.
