The CHA Center of Excellence for Child and Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Care at Somerville provides a transformative continuum of patient- and family-centered care for diverse youth with mental health needs. The Center also provides unique opportunities for training and research at CHA to identify when, where and how to positively impact trajectories of the Commonwealth's most vulnerable youth.
This position serves a critical role in these services, providing clinical social work services for an average caseload of 7 patients. The position will be based at CHA Somerville.
Responsibilities:
- Provides assessment, evaluation, treatment and/or referral of children and adolescents with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to define and provide the services needed by patients.
- Demonstrates a capacity to work collaboratively in a team setting, with an ability to listen to others, participate actively, and take appropriate responsibilities.
- Offers treatment recommendations for specific diagnosis while educating patients and families about illness and treatment options. Contributes as a member of team in discussions of diagnosis and treatment.
- Shares problems and considers issues of acuity and risk.
- Participates in the assignment of mental health and addictions care options based on clinical practice criteria.
- Participates in the educational therapeutic groups relating to trauma, coping skills, social skills enhancement, healthy relationships and self-esteem.
- Shares and participates in the knowledge acquisition process of new initiatives, policies and practice.
- Maintains awareness of medical issues and/or problems of patients to ensure patients have preventative and secondary care.
- Collaborates on cases through the sharing of assessments and framework of treatment empowering ongoing providers to improve interventions.
- Collaborates with other caregivers, community agencies and family members as necessary to provide systemically informed, community-based treatment.
- Such collaboration may require participation in case review conferences and other meetings as needed.
- Completes psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, termination notes, CANS assessments, and other required paperwork thoroughly and on time.
- Provides all necessary documentation in clients' medical charts in an effective and timely fashion.
- Participates in activities of the Cambridge Health Alliance Department of Social Work.
- Participates in teaching and training activities including continuing education activities needed to maintain yearly licensing requirements.
- With independent licensure, provides clinical supervision for clinical social workers and social work interns as needed.
- Makes referrals to a variety of community agencies and assists patients/clients with applications and with follow-up as appropriate.
- Participates in the design and implementation of patient education and psycho-education programs for patients, families and others as necessary.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in social work
- Current MA licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- When required, must be credentialed by the CHA Medical Staff for practice in relevant clinical practice areas.
Previous Experience:
- Minimum of two years post-Master's degree for LICSW preferably working in an inpatient psychiatry setting with a relevant population.
- Minimum of one-year internship experience for LCSW working in an inpatient psychiatry setting, and/or with relevant population.
- All newly hired candidates must successfully complete a job specific physical agility test.
