SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Practice Administrator, the Lead RN is responsible for providing function guidance to clinical staff. Assist supervisor in staffing, training, and coaching of staff. Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assist in examination and treatment of patients, take vital signs, record patient charges, record patient history, assist in minor office procedures. Participate in patient education, communicating effectively with others and functioning in the scope of practice. Provides and monitors safe, cost-effective patient care in accordance with RN scope of practice and adherence to the organization’s nursing policy and procedures. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

Essential Job Duties
- Complies with all Riverside Medical Clinic quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention.
- Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.
- Provides function guidance to clinical staff with daily operations of the back office.
- Training and development of staffing ensuring safety and infection control procedures are followed.
- Review patient medical record prior to visit to ensure chart readiness for physician.
- Interview patients, take vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess patient condition; record vital signs in patient chart. Function as triage nurse when necessary.
- Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize appropriate equipment after use. Order medical supplies and equipment as needed.
- Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their family in order to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. Provide patient education using approved materials and methods to enhance outcomes.
- Administer prescribed medication orally by injection or IV and document, according to policy. Observe patient and report any adverse reactions, to include chemotherapy medications.
- Initiate intravenous lines, add IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of the Physician or an Allied Health Professional (must be IV certified). Rush medications when ordered.
- Respond to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out. Return patient chart to medical records.
- Assists in the formulation, evaluation and revision of nursing polices, procedures, and routine in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
- Evaluates utilization of personnel, supplies, equipment and physical facilities for optimum effectiveness and working conditions.
- Function in the RN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing program. A.A., Diploma, B.S.N. preferred. Two years’ experience preferred working as an RN in an Ambulatory Care setting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Current California RN license required. Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association, ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association, PALS Certification (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – American Heart Association and IV certification required.
