A Brief Overview
Intermediate Care nurses provide direct care or influence care for acutely ill adult patients who are moderately stable with an elevated risk for instability. These patients require a high intensity of care and vigilance. Intermediate Care nurses practice in settings where patients require complex assessment and interventions. These nurses are required to refine their assessment skills supported by invasive/non-invasive technology.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
- Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.
- RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.

- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
- Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring.
- Promotes a mutually respectful environment.
- Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
- Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work.
- Mentors nurses new to their role.
- Commits to lifelong learning.
- Demonstrates willingness to participate and lead nursing practice.
- Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services.
