Position Summary
The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre program provides world-class cardiovascular care. One of the largest programs of its kind in North America, we are a major referral centre. Our program offers resources and expertise prepared to deal with even the most complex patient cases.
Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians and other allied health professionals with special training in cardiac and vascular conditions and its treatment. Each year, our innovative surgery techniques and outstanding cardiology interventions attract hundreds of visiting professors and trainees from around the globe.
Duties
- Participation with implantation of devices, laser lead extractions and running analyzer software
- Assessment of lead position and function in the OR and Cath Labs
- Assessing the following at routine visits as well as on remote monitoring: troubleshooting of intra-cardiac electrograms, evaluation of the data retrieved from the cardiac rhythm device, arrhythmia report, battery life, lead function and alerting the physician of concerns identified.
- Required practice in a collaborative and patient centered role that complies with departmental and hospital policies, in order to deliver safe and efficient patient care
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of a recognized 2 year Cardiac Technologist Diploma program
- CSCT (Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists) registration
- Must be familiar with contemporary pacing practices and be able to respond to emergency situations appropriately (ie: pacemaker/ICD/CRT functions, clinical indications, follow-up and lead malfunctions)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S)
- IBHRE Certification an Asset
- Previous experience and knowledge of PM/ICD/CRT algorithms
- Ability to work full shift wearing mask and lead aprons
- Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology
- Excellent problem recognition and problem solving skills
- Effective time management skills, ability to organize work and set priorities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work effectively as both a team member and autonomous professional
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
- Ability to meet patient care needs
- Commitment to continuing education to ensure maintenance of competencies and current best practice in device management
- Knowledge of hospital emergency codes and procedure
- Previous experience with pacemaker and defibrillator programming, an asset
