Job Summary: East Tennessee State University, College of Nursing, is seeking a PRN Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our Mountain City Extended Hours Health Center, a federally certified Rural Health Clinic serving the residents of Johnson County, TN, and neighboring counties. It provides primary and prenatal care, as well as behavioral health services, in a primary care setting to the community, located inside the Johnson County Community Hospital.
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide advanced practice primary care; document all services; collaborate with other clinical staff, clinical director, and preceptor; supervise staff as assigned; participate in quality assurance activities; and demonstrate a commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position self and balance. The employee must occasionally move (including lift, carry, push, and pull) up to 100 pounds or more. The employee must be able to perceive and respond to sounds and alarms; communicate effectively with others; be able to observe and monitor situations and details at close range in full and dimmed light. The employee may be required to move and/or stay in a stationary position in various settings for up to 12 hours at a time in addition to the preparation and closure of a clinical shift. Rapid mobility may also be required on occasion. Physical expectations of an assigned clinical facility may vary and be subject to change. Stress levels may be high due to frequently dealing with numerous students, patients, family members, and other healthcare providers. This position demands concentration and the ability to work in emotionally charged situations.
Required Qualifications:
- Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing with preparation in advanced practice nursing (FNP, ANP, PNP, or another specialty as required for specific position);
- National certification in the appropriate area;
- Certificate of fitness to prescribe;
- Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Tennessee or a compact state;
- Experience as specified for each position.
- Physician Assistant Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program;
- Valid Physician Assistant license in TN or compact state;
- Certificate of fitness to prescribe;
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
