JOB SUMMARY
The primary focus of this position will be to support adults with developmental disabilities to increase their independence through the use of Assistive Technology. This includes the development of communication supports that range from low tech solutions to the utilization of AAC devices. This position will also participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for individuals with intense behavioral needs as well as an assistive technology team for individuals who receive Summit DD services. Service settings include in home, day service and employment environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Completion of screening and assessment of speech, language, swallowing, cognitive aspects of communication, augmentative and alternative communication and hearing (screening only).
- Devises treatment programs for specific individuals and/or small groups including:
- Development of Intervention plan for individual or small group;
- Education and in-service training to families, caregivers and professionals;
- Provision of direct services utilizing various service delivery models;
- Monitoring and summarizing data from treatment program;
- Provision of follow-up services to monitor/maintain skills;
- Completes documentation, as required.
- Educates and counsels individuals, families, co-workers, managers and others where indicated and advocates for individuals to promote full participation and improving quality of life.
- Assists in crisis intervention upon request.
- Maintains compliance with appropriate federal and state regulations, professional standards and Board policy, including DODD regulations, and standards set by Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
- Attends Individual Plan meeting and/or makes recommendations for programming to team, writes objectives, discusses methods of implementation, identifies materials to be used and implements treatment or trains others.
- Fulfills normal additional duties and responsibilities appropriate for the position and required for safe operation of program.
- Must follow safety and health rules and regulations, including, but not limited to, OSHA standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college/university.
Experience: Experience preferred but CFY available. For example: One year providing pediatric speech/language services. Not applicable to applicants from within the WEA1 bargaining unit. May be required to complete a Supervised Professional Experience within 12 months of hire, if necessary for licensure.
Skills: Proficient in use of Microsoft Office. Operate job related equipment including the use of basic computer programs and systems. Read, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing. Use mathematics to solve problems.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND OTHER EXPECTATIONS
Knowledge: Proficient with computers and use of applicable software (MS Word/Outlook), ability to use general office equipment. Must have good working knowledge and understanding of behavior support, individualized service plans, person-centered planning, medical, psychosocial, orthopedic, and psychiatric aspects of disability, client rights, waivers, benefits, self-determination and HIPAA. Knowledgeable of applicable statutes, regulatory standards, and reporting authorities. Good working knowledge of DD programs, services and community resources.
Abilities: Ability to analyze information obtained from testing situation and make programming recommendations. Ability to respond to crisis situation, using approved techniques and follow up. Ability to analyze situation when dealing with persons served and responds in the best interest of person and knows what to document and who to inform of situation. Effectively manage time to meet operational needs and desired outcomes and plan and organize the steps to implement new projects. Listen to, understand and communicate information and ideas. Work independently with minimal supervision. Maintain strict confidentiality. Work as part of a team and work effectively with persons and communities from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds. Work effectively under pressure.
Other Expectations: Report unusual incidents and major unusual incidents. Complete all required training and maintains strict confidentiality. Regular attendance is mandatory. Maintain related records in accordance with appropriate records retention guidelines and policies. Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures. Must have reliable transportation to fulfill responsibilities requiring travel in the community. Must be available by personal cell phone during working hours.
