We are seeking a research nurse to join the Clinical Genetics Branch (CGB) of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The research nurse serves as a key member of the interprofessional research team and works with a wide variety of research and clinical staff both within and external to the NIH Clinical Center.
Major responsibilities include:
- Independently provide patient-focused nursing care within the interprofessional team. Collaborate with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
- Identify and communicate the impact of the research process on patient care.
- Participate in an interprofessional team environment supporting clinical evaluation and follow up of study participants.
- Collect epidemiologic, genetic, and clinical data according to protocol specifications.
- Assist in the management of study participant files, including collating and organizing research data and performing basic analysis of trends.
- Coordinate patient schedules for visits to the NIH Clinical Center and provide information for a successful visit to meet the required protocol procedures, data collection time points, and nursing care.
Qualifications
Required
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Current RN licensure is required.
Preferred
- At least two (2) years of nursing or relevant clinical experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience in research, oncology, and/or genetics is desirable.
- Knowledge of clinical research data collection and clinical data report preparation.
