Description
Is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. Initiates and follows quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Performs specimen collection and assists with patient flow as needed. Performs clinical tests use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. Demonstrates the clinical thinking and technical skills needed to assess the appropriateness of results and the need for retesting or equipment recalibration. Performs and monitors specialized diagnostic laboratory tests. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
· Processes/evaluates patient specimens in accordance to SOP, including reference lab specimens. Resolves issues with specimens that are time/temperature sensitive.
· Performs routine instrument maintenance following manufacturer's specifications (including startup and shut down) and documents appropriately.
· Corrects basic instrument malfunctions and documents them.
· Communicates instrumentation status to appropriate staff members and notifies vendors to schedule service calls.
· Performs instrument calibrations following manufacturer's specifications.
· Utilizes standard quality control practices in decision-making to ensure reliable testing and proper regulatory compliance.
· Performs proficiency testing in a manner and time frame that is consistent with good laboratory practice.
· Performs and approves specimen testing using sound judgment and evaluation.
· Releases results in accordance with departmental policy.
· Performs Stat and routine orders within established time frames.
· Communicates and logs critical values according to SOP.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
· Basic medical laboratory skills required.
· Excellent written and oral communications skills required .
· Ability to perform diversified duties within specified time limitations required.
· Ability to organize, problem solve, set priorities, and use critical thinking skills required.
· Strong customer service skills required.
· Ability to be a team player required.
· Two years previous laboratory experience required.
· Experience with Laboratory Computer Information System preferred
· Knowledge of QA principles preferred
EDUCATION:
· Bachelor 's Degree of Science in related field of Science required
· Heart Saver or Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
· SCP certified preferred
