Performs imaging/therapeutic services and associated patient care in support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:
1. Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
2. Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
3. Radiologic Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state.
4. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
5. West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
For Pennsylvania locations:
1. Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
2. Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
3. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
4. State criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
- Performs image procedures based on assessment of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols, monitored by periodic evaluations.
- Produces images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems.
- Select exposure factors based on patient’s size, condition, and pathology.
- Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff.
- Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Assesses patient’s needs and provides appropriate support.
- Prepares contrast agents and sterile trays according to protocols.
- Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures.
- Promotes teamwork in providing Radiology services.
- Engages in problem-solving and performance improvements.
- Displays adherence to ethical standards and regulations.
- Reports equipment failures immediately.
- Completes all in-services and competencies on time.
- Positions patients accurately according to protocols.
- Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
- Provides minimal instruction to radiology students.
- Ensures completion of all vital components of the imaging process.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Differentiate various shades of gray on a monitor.
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Wear a lead apron for extended periods.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to minimal radiation within national standards.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
- Operation of imaging equipment with moving parts.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to interact positively with patients and healthcare team.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple situations.
- Ability to improvise with positioning techniques and equipment.
Additional Job Description:
Working night shift 7p-7a, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays.
